Faculty members have made it clear that having the full text of primary source material available digitally is one of the most valuable services the library can provide. Thus, ZSR has made it a high priority to acquire these materials using funds from the Presidential Trust and in collaboration with other libraries. New resources include:

  • LexisNexis® Congressional Hearings Digital Collection

When completed in December, this database will give researchers access to the content of both published and unpublished hearings from 1829 to the present. Hearings contain the full transcripts of the proceedings, including all oral statements, committee questions, and discussion. They also contain texts of related reports, statistical analyses, correspondence, exhibits, and articles presented by witnesses or inserted into the record by committee members and staff. The Hearings Collection is incorporated into our LexisNexis Congressional database. Supported by the Presidential Trust for Faculty Excellence and the Professional Center Library.

  • Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers

Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers provides access to approximately 1.7 million pages of primary source newspaper content from the 19th century, featuring full-text content and images from numerous newspapers from a range of urban and rural regions throughout the U.S. The collection encompasses the entire 19th century, with an emphasis on such topics as the American Civil War, African American culture and history, Western migration and Antebellum-era life, among other subjects. Supported by the Presidential Trust for Faculty Excellence.
