The Resource Services Team is committed to helping our students, faculty, and staff succeed. We do this by acquiring, organizing and providing access to a broad range of materials in all formats that are essential to the University's academic programs and that support the research needs of the faculty. The team is comprised of Acquisitions, Cataloging, Collections Management, Resource Maintenance, and Serials Management. With a passion for excellence and efficiency these units work collectively across departmental lines building a unique collection with multicultural materials that represent a variety of viewpoints.

Resource Services is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items listed as "received" or "in process" in the online catalog may be obtained within one hour during the business day and overnight after business hours. Please submit your request to the Circulation desk.

Acquisitions

Acquisitions is responsible for pre-order searching, placement and receipt of orders, all activities involved with the payment, claiming and processing of materials selected for inclusion in the ZSR Library collections. This unit receives approximately 12,000 titles per year, with an expenditures budget of 1.5 million dollars the staff work to ensure that materials will be acquired as promptly and as cost effective as possible. Requests for new orders are received daily from academic departments and library liaisons. This unit also processes monographs that are donated to the library.

Cataloging

The Cataloging Unit is responsible for organizing the library's collections and making them accessible through the Online Catalog so that students, faculty, and staff are able to locate and use the materials they need. Using national standards and information supplied by national databases, this unit provides accurate and consistent forms of names and subject listings, and assigns the call numbers so that similar materials in the same format will appear together on the shelves.

Collection Management

Collections Management builds, maintains, and enhances access to the library's collections of books, electronic resources, journals, media, newspapers, and microforms. The unit works with all departments of the library to address the allocation and expenditure of the library materials budget, the assignment, management, and guidance of Library Liaisons, and the operation of the gift program to receive and process book donations. Cooperative collection building among the Wake Forest University libraries is another mission for the unit as is participation in various consortia for purchasing advantage.

Resource Maintenance

The Resource Maintenance Unit consists of two sub-units. The Online Maintenance sub-unit is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the information in the online database. This includes correcting inaccuracies in the library's online database and electronic journal holdings. If you encounter inconsistencies with our electronic journals, please use the "Report a problem" feature on the library's webpage. If you encounter other inconsistencies with data found in the online database, please contact the Circulation or Reference Departments and indicate the problem so we can make the necessary corrections. The sub-unit is also responsible for updating materials' current status in the online catalog, for instance when materials are transferred to other locations, withdrawn, replaced, etc.

The Binding sub-unit is responsible for all functions relating to commercial library binding for the ZSR Library collection. This sub-unit prepares periodicals, serials, monographs, pamphlets, theses, dissertations, and various other items for shipment to the commercial bindery. In addition the sub-unit is responsible for shelf preparation of library materials such as labeling and property stamping and in-house binding known as pamphlet binding.

Serials Management

The primary responsibility of the Serials Unit is processing the active periodicals, standing orders, and continuations for the ZSR library. These materials represent a variety of formats, including print, microfilm, microfiche, CD-ROMS, electronic journals, and electronic databases. Additional responsibilities include ordering new serial titles, claiming materials not received, reordering missing or damaged issues, and renewing subscriptions. The annual expenditures budget is over $2.7 million.
