Background Reading |
After selecting a suitable topic, look for background information on it. One place to begin is with a general encyclopedia such as Encyclopedia Britannica Online. The articles are usually written by qualified experts, cover nearly every subject, and provide a good overview. This overview may also help you to focus your topic. Look at the headings or table of contents. If necessary, use them to narrow your topic. Also, you can identify further research on your topic by examining the bibliographies or references. In addition to general encyclopedias, the Reference Department has hundreds of subject-related encyclopedias. Many subject encyclopedias are available online, however, the majority are in print and can be located through the online catalog. |
