What We Circulate and For How Long
In most cases the privileges of particular patrons determine the circulation parameters of what they check out but in at least four cases the type of material determines the loan period, etc. These types are:
Periodicals
- Bound: Loan period is for 24 hours and these circulate to Reynolda Campus faculty and graduate students only.
- Unbound: These are generally non-circulating. They may be taken out of their areas only with staff permission.
Videocassettes, DVDs, and Laser Discs
- Loan period is three days.
- Student checkout is limited to 3. Faculty and staff checkout is limited to 5. They circulate to patrons with Wake picture IDs only.
Reserves
- These materials support the curriculum and loan periods are decided by instructors. See Reserves for further information.
Browsing Books
- Loan period is one month for all classes of patrons, including faculty.
Reference
- These are generally non-circulating. They may be taken out of their areas only with staff permission.
Government Documents
- Government documents materials are available for use by all citizens during regular library hours. Most government documents circulate, but some (census materials, periodicals, some congressional material and reference materials) do not. Documents may be checked out at the Circulation Desk and must be returned to that location.
- Because documents circulate to some patrons who do not have WFU library cards, checking them out requires identification and filling out a short form for us to keep for our records.
- Government documents circulate to Z. Smith Reynolds Library patrons according to their usual library privileges. They circulate to those patrons without library cards for a period of one month, with a limit of ten documents checked out at any one time.
"Cage" Materials
- These are restricted materials that must be requested and generally circulate within the library only. Special arrangements must be made with the Circulation Department before removing cage materials from the building.
From the Circulation Desk
- We circulate laptop power cords and power strips for 4 hours at a time, and they are meant for buliding use only.
- We circulate headphones for 2 hours at a time to enable students who want to watch DVDs in the library on their laptops.
- We also have staplers, paperclips, calculators, rulers, whiteout, etc, to borrow when needed.
- Anything we've forgotten? Just ask!
