Circulation Help
How Do I...?
To Place Holds and Recalls Online
- Go into the Library's online catalog
- Bring up the record for the item you wish to place a hold or recall on.
- Click on the "Request Hold/Recall" link near the top of the page.
- Log into the system.
- From the login screen, enter a 1 plus the 8-digit number from the front of your WFU id (not including the last digit).
- Enter your last name.
- Click on the login button.
- From the pull down menu that appears beneath "Please choose
your request," select either "Hold" or "Recall"
and then click OK.
- Complete the "OPAC Request" box.
- In the box labeled "WFU ID Card #," enter, again, a 1 plus the 8 digit number from your WFU id, omitting the final digit.
- In the "Not Needed After" box, enter the number of days you wish your hold to stay in the system before expiring.
- Click on the "Submit Request" button.
Please note:
- Holds may be placed on books checked out or currently on order.
- Patrons will be notified when the books they have requested are available.
- They can pick up these materials at the Circulation Desk.
- Holds cannot be placed on items that have a status of "checked in".
- If a desired title is not checked out but cannot be located in the stacks, patrons are encouraged to come to the Circulation desk and fill out a "Search and Hold" slip and let the staff help look for it.
- Unlike holds, recalls reassign a new due date and notify the patron who currently has the book that it is now due in two weeks.
- When a recall is placed on an item that is overdue or is needed for Reserve, the current patron is notified that the book must be returned immediately.
- All patrons, faculty included, are expected to respond to recalls.
- Non-college patrons cannot place recalls.
To Renew Materials Online
If the combination of patron borrowing privileges and type of material allow, items may be renewed online, one time.
To renew items online:
- Go to the Library's online catalog.
- Click on the my account link at the top of the page.
- Log in to the system.
- From the login screen, enter a 1 plus the 8-digit number from the front of your WFU id (not including the last digit).
- Enter your last name.
- Click on the login button.
- The items you currently have checked out from the Z. Smith Reynolds Library will be listed right below your name and address.
- Check the box of the item(s) you wish to renew.
- Click the renew items button.
- Note the new due date or the fact that the item has not been renewed.
Please note:
Items may be renewed for one circulation period. This circulation period depends on the patron's borrowing privileges and the type of item checked out.
The next due date will be determined by the date of renewal, not the original due date. For example, if a book with a loan period of one month is due March 22 and it is renewed on March 15, the next due date is April 15, not April 22.
Items may be renewed one time only. Items must be brought to the Library to be checked in and then checked out again to continue borrowing.
If another patron has placed a hold on an item, renewal (online or in person) will not be allowed.
If you have any questions, please contact the Circulation Department.
