Wake Forest University's Debate Team was established in 1834, making it the oldest organization on campus. Materials in this collection include news clippings and booklets.

Biographical and Historical Note

Wake Forest University's Debate Team was established in 1834, making it the oldest student organization on campus. In 1897, the debate team competed in its first intercollegiate debate at Trinity College, now Duke University. In 1997, the team won its first National Debate Championship. In 2008, the team won its second National Debate Championship in 2008 and has won many other awards, including the ACC Debate Championship four times and qualifying for the semifinals of Cross Examination Debate Association Nationals.
