The collection's logo
Calvin Jones was a physician, politician, and newspaper publisher who was born near Sheffield, Mass. in 1775. He was an original founder of the North Carolina Medical Society before purchasing a 615 acre farm in northern Wake County in 1820. The region, known as the “Forest of Wake,” lent its name to his plantation: Wake Forest. A small collection of Calvin Jones Papers can be physically accessed at ZSR Special Collections and Archives. This digital collection features handwritten documents regarding Jones' plantations in Wake Forest, N.C., that are part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Southern Historical Collections holdings.
