1 collection
- This collection is the correspondence between Katharine Smith Reynolds (1880-1924) and J. Edward Johnston (d. 1951). Katharine Smith married R. J. Reynolds of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1905. She conceived of and was instrumental in the formation of Reynolda Village and the construction of the Reynolda House in Winston-Salem, NC. The correspondence in this collection occurred after Katharine Reynolds had been widowed. A majority of the letters were sent from Katharine Reynolds at the Reynolda House to Edward Johnston, the former school superintendent of Reynolda Village. Reynolds and Johnston married in June 1921, and their correspondence as represented in this collection continues for a few years after their marriage.
