Carlyle was an alumnus of Wake Forest College (1917) who became a lawyer in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and trustee of Wake Forest College and Bowman Gray School of Medicine, later Wake Forest University School of Medicine. His papers contain personal, legal, and financial records, subject files, and other files relating to his service to Wake Forest University and Bowman Gray School of Medicine. The files contain extensive correspondence with leading politicial figures in North Carolina. Also included is information on the relocation of the College from Wake Forest, N.C., to the Winston-Salem campus.
