His papers consist of receipts for taxes owed to North Carolina and the Confederate government; store receipts; tuition receipts from Wake Forest College; two land indentures; a letter about the purchase of a cotton gin (1838); and papers relating to the purchase or hire of five enslaved people that he held captive.
