St. Stephen's is obviously Episcopalian, while Pope's Chapel is a part of the Christian Church, which would later become the United Church of Christ. New Hope's records fill only one volume, while Pope's Chapel's fill five and St. Stephen's fill six. The North Carolina Department of Archives and History, the group responsible for microfilming the records, provides breaks between each church's records. The records for all three churches focus primarily on the minutes of church meetings and lists of church members and clergy, though they also provide insight into church events and finances.</p> </scopecontent> <accessrestrict id="ref25"> <head>Access Restrictions</head> <p>Collection is open for researchers.</p> </accessrestrict> <controlaccess> <corpname source="local">New Hope Baptist Church (Berea, N.C.).</corpname> <corpname source="local" role="Associated name (asn)">Pope's Chapel Christian Church (Pocomoke, N.C.).</corpname> <corpname source="lcsh" role="Associated name (asn)">St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Oxford, N.C.).</corpname> <subject source="lcsh">Baptists--North Carolina--Franklin County--History--Sources</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Baptists--North Carolina--Granville County--History--Sources</subject> <subject source="local">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Berea</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Franklin County</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Granville County</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Oxford</subject> <subject source="local">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Pocomoke</subject> <geogname source="lcsh">Franklin County (N.C.)--Church history--Sources</geogname> <geogname source="lcsh">Granville County (N.C.)--Church history--Sources</geogname> </controlaccess> <dsc> <c id="ref3" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>New Hope Baptist Church Book</unittitle> <unitdate>1886-1891</unitdate> </did> <scopecontent id="ref7"> <head>Scope and Contents note</head> <p>Contains the Minutes, Membership Lists, and Accounts of Collections received from 1886-1891</p> </scopecontent> </c> <c id="ref4" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Pope's Chapel Christian Church (Pocomoke, N.C.) All volumes contain membership lists and minutes from the years listed. In Volume 1, there are separate membership lists for males, females, and "the colored." The later volumes list membership under the more inclusive heading, "Church Roll." Volume 3 also includes the partially filled out form for Pope's Chapel's "Annual Report to Conference" for the Eastern North Carolina Conference and "The Annual of the Southern Convention" of 1943. Volume 1 begins with an 1867 note from the rector explaining the organization of the Volume. The volume is divided into lists of baptisms, burials, confirmations, communicants, and marriages with notes concerning the congregation's offerings and the rectors' salaries. Volume 3 shares the same list structure but with the addition of the categories "Families" and "History," which includes the minutes for meetings of the vestry. The remaining volumes provide the minutes for meetings of the vestry and meetings of the congregation, as well as correspondence with the bishop and others, newspaper clippings, church resolutions, and information about the church's spending.</p> </scopecontent> <c id="ref15" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 1</unittitle> <unitdate>1832-1882</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref16" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 2</unittitle> <unitdate>1882-1891</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref17" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 3</unittitle> <unitdate>1885-1926</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref18" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 4</unittitle> <unitdate>1909-1927</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref19" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 5</unittitle> <unitdate>1927-1939</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref20" level="otherlevel"> <did> <unittitle>Volume 6</unittitle> <unitdate>1939-1949</unitdate> </did> </c> </c> </dsc> </archdesc> </ead>
