Biographical and Historical Note
Microfilmed by the North Carolina Department of Archives and History, Raleigh, N.C. in July of 1961.
Following the precedent set by the North Carolina Department of Archives and History, the North Carolina Baptist Historical Collection refers to the church originating these records as Sneads Ferry Primitive Baptist Church. In its records, however, the church is called only "the church at Yopps Meeting House." The records also indicate that the church was founded in 1835, when its covenant was first signed.
Collection Overview
This collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing a single volume of minutes from Sneads Ferry Primitive Baptist Church. This volume also contains the church's covenant and rules of decorum as well as the names of the members who first signed this covenant in 1835. The minutes deal with the period from 1892 to 1940, giving an account of the church's meetings as recorded by the church clerk. These meetings were generally held on the Saturday preceding the second Sunday of the month and most often consisted of planning visits to sister churches and taking up contributions for the pastor or various brothers and sisters.
