It spent much of its first year without a pastor or even a name. Its name, "Immanuel," would ultimately come from a dream of one of its members, Brother Dowell. In 1919, Immanuel Baptist Church held its opening service in its own building. By this time, church membership had grown to 140 people. As the church grew it expanded both its location and its services. In 1965, Immanuel Baptist Church broke ground on a new building, and in 1969 it opened a nursery school, which was also open to the wider community.</p> </bioghist> <scopecontent id="ref12"> <head>Scope and Contents</head> <p>This collection consists of a single reel of microfilm containing six minute books from Immanuel Baptist Church of Greenville, North Carolina.
