Biographical and Historical Note
Elder Elias Dodson had been preaching in Greensboro and assisted in constituting a church on September 28, 1850. This church was an arm of the Madison Baptist Church prior to its constitution. It became extinct in 1859. The Greensboro church was constituted on March 13, 1859 by a presbytery consisting of Elders Thomas E. Skinner, Levi Thorn, and John Mitchell. There were fourteen charter members including four black members. This church has been a member of the Beulah (1859-1894) and Piedmont (1894-present) Baptist associations. The church has undergone three name changes: Greensboro, 1859-1887; West Washington Street, 1887-1902; and Greensboro First, 1902.
