Biographical and Historical Note
The Winter Park Baptist Church began as a Sunday School on October 8, 1911 with 37 members. The following year preaching services were begun by Reverend M.O. Alexander, Assistant Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington. On June 15, 1913, the Winter Park Baptist Church was organized by Mr. Alexander with a membership of 37 people. Reverend W. Marshall Craig of South Carolina, having just taken up duties as assistant pastor at First Church, was called as pastor. The first member to be admitted to the church by profession of faith and baptism was Charles Spurgeon Lowrimore. A scrapbook entitled "History of Winter Park Baptist Church" was read at the opening service for the new building on March 14, 1926. Other written histories of the church include a book of history and anniversaries as well as the NCCF's collection of newspaper clippings with history including a complete list of pastors.
