In addition to the minutes for church meetings, Book 1 also contains the church's constitution, covenant, articles of faith, and lists of member names. N. Stallings and others. Another historical note: The church's original covenant from 1897 references the keeping of slaves. In the covenant, members promise to "instruct all those under our immediate care or charge, whether bond or free" and "conduct ourselves with a Christian deportment towards our slaves." Readers will remember that slavery had been prohibited in 1865 with the adoption of the 13th Amendment.</p> </bioghist> <accessrestrict id="ref10"> <head>Access Restrictions</head> <p>Collection is open for researchers.</p> </accessrestrict> <controlaccess> <corpname source="local">Ijames Cross Roads Baptist Church (Mocksville, N.C.).</corpname> <subject source="lcsh">Baptists--North Carolina--Davie County--History--Sources</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Davie County</subject> <subject source="lcsh">Church records and registers--North Carolina--Mocksville</subject> <geogname source="lcsh">Davie County (N.C.)--Church history--Sources</geogname> </controlaccess> <dsc> <c id="ref5" level="series"> <did> <unittitle>Minutes</unittitle> </did> <c id="ref6" level="subseries"> <did> <unittitle>Book 1</unittitle> <unitdate>1897-1958</unitdate> </did> </c> <c id="ref7" level="subseries"> <did> <unittitle>Book 2</unittitle> <unitdate>1958-1972</unitdate> </did> </c> </c> </dsc> </archdesc> </ead>
