Biographical and Historical Note
Elam Baptist Church was constituted on Dec. 8, 1844 as Vassers' Meeting House. The church had been an arm of another church as early as 1788. The church changed its name to Elam in 1858. This church has been a member of the Chowan (1847-83) and West Chowan (1883-present) Baptist associations.
Collection Overview
Records consist of minutes of church conferences from Nov. 1, 1879 to Oct. 8, 1978 [broken series]; a membership ledger,1901-25 [broken series]; and Sunday School records, 1888-1890.
