Biographical and Historical Note
The New Hope Baptist Church is located 10 miles west of Sparta, N.C., on Highway #221, Alleghany County, North Carolina. The church was constituted on December 17, 1881. A member of the New River Association, 1881-1885; of the Alleghany and Ashe Association, 1886-1896; received into the Alleghany Association, 1897. First building, 1881-1959, a one-room wooden structure, 36' x 40', with plain glass windows; dedicated in 1881, repaired in 1900. Present building, 1959 - , a brick structure built in 1959 and dedicated in 1962 in a special ceremony. First resident clergyman was Elder J.A. Stamey, 1881-1882.
