Biographical and Historical Note
Wallburg Baptist Church was established on September 3, 1892 as part of the Liberty Baptist Association. Samuel D. Yokely gave the land for the first church building. In 1916, a larger brick building with increased capacity was constructed. On April 11, 1937, this new building burned down and the church was rebuilt over the following year. Other additions to this building include a parsanage, an educational building, an expanded sanctuary, and a bell tower and steeple. Sunday School programs were established in 1908, Vacation Bible School programs and a monthly newsletter began in the 1950s. The church has also had a radio ministry. Wallburg Baptist Church had two other names in its history: Church of Christ at Wallburg (1892-1903) and Church of Christ at Piney Grove (1903-1907).
