Biographical and Historical Note
John Thomas Alderman was an educator, state senator, Baptist historian, and Mason. He was a native of Salemburg, Sampson County, N.C., and served as superintendent of schools of Henderson, N.C. until his retirement in 1923. He was a North Carolina state senator in 1925 and 1929; he also served as chair of the historical commission of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. In addition to his interest in Baptist history, Alderman was an active Mason who held many offices in the organization, culminating with his election as Grand Mast of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina in 1914.
