Henry Alfred Brown Papers
Henry Alfred Brown was a Wake Forest College alumnus (1867). Brown preached at numerous Piedmont-area Baptist churches, most notably Winston-Salem First Baptist Church. Brown received an honorary D.D. degree in 1895 from Wake Forest College. This collection contains Reverend Henry Alfred Brown's personal and pastoral materials. This includes photographs, correspondence, writing, memoirs, and sermons, as well as poetry and clippings written by Brown.

Biographical and Historical Note
Henry Alfred Brown was born on September 20, 1846, in Wentworth, North Carolina to Robert and Sarah Troth Brown. In 1864, Brown joined the Fourth North Carolina Battalion of the Navy, stationed at Camp Davis south of Wilmington. After his service, he attended Wake Forest College in 1867. Short after his graduation, he converted and was baptized. Brown preached at numerous Piedmont-are Baptist churches, most notably Winston-Salem First Baptist Church. Brown married Julia Ellen Cain on November 14th, 1878. They had three children: Henry Wingate, Addie Pauline and Julia Eloise. Brown received an honorary D.D. degree in 1895 from Wake Forest College, and passed away April 25, 1929.
