J.H. Foote, Iredell County, received his A.B. from Wake Forest College in 1852, and his A.M. in 1856. He was a teacher in Farmington and Taylorsville, 1852-1859, and professor at Wake Forest College, 1859-1861. During the Civil War he was Capt. of County I, 1st North Carolina Infantry Regt. and was in charge of the "Roll of Honor" office, Raleigh, North Carolina. He was a teacher in Warrenton, Raleigh, and Wilkes counties. He served as Assistant U.S. Marshal, and as member of the General Assembly of North Carolina.
