Norwood Family Papers, circa 1979
The Norwood family attended Wake Forest College and were bankers in the years leading up to and the years after the Bank Holiday of 1933. Their papers consist of biographical data; photocopies of articles and notes about the family; and printed materials as compiled by Charles Stephens Norwood for the purpose of making a family album.
Biographical and Historical Note
George Alexander Norwood (1831-1909), Wake Forest College alum, began the family legacy of the finance and banking business. George Alexander Norwood Jr. (1863-1947), the eldest son of George Alexander Norwood and fellow Wake Forest College alum, established the National Bank of Goldsboro and the Goldsboro Savings and Trust Company. In the years following the Great Depression, George A. Norwood Jr.'s eldest son, Thomas Hart Norwood (1893-1984), continued working in the banking industry as a bank examiner. George A. Norwood Jr. 's second eldest son, Evan Wilkins Norwood (1894-1979), worked as a Southern Baptist missionary to China from 1924 to 1928. George A. Norwood Jr.'s youngest son, Charles Stephen Norwood (1904-1989), worked in the real estate industry alongside his position at the Bank of Goldsboro.
