Biographical and Historical Note
Dr. Frank Shirley was a professor in the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre at Wake Forest College, later Wake Forest University. He served as Mayor of the City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from 1970-1977, and was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church. Shirley died February 26, 1985. He was married to Mamie Shirley, a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school teacher.
