Biographical and Historical Note
Julius H. Corpening was born on February 22, 1928, in Lancaster, South Carolina. Corpening graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest College (1949) and continued his studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He was a Baptist pastor in Moncure, North Carolina; Durham, North Carolina; and Hampton, South Carolina. In 1969, he came to Wake Forest University to head the Piedmont Church and Industry Institute and act as director of the Urban Affairs Institute. In 1974 he began the development program for the Wake Forest School of Law. He was also responsible for the Masters Reception and, in his personal time, was an avid fan of Wake Forest-affilitated sport teams. Corpening passed away on April 5, 2014.
