Joseph Pike Papers
Joseph Pike enlisted as a Private in Company C, 10th Battalion Virginia Artillery, in the United States Civil War. These four letters, written by Pike between March and December 1864, are to his family and describe a storm in camp, camp life, their location, the weather, a visit to his brother John and his winter quarters, and the battle of Chaffin's Farm. The collection also contains his oath of allegiance (1865) and an 1859 receipt for taxes.
