John Richard Miller was a Baptist pastor in a number of churches in North Carolina. His memoirs were written at the request of his children. His memoirs began with his birth in 1864, and continue until around 1940. In addition to his chronological memoirs he wrote sketches of Baptist churches where he served as pastor in the Randolph, Liberty, Stanly, Kings Mountain, Pee Dee, Burnt Swamp, and Robeson Baptist associations.

This collection also contains a folder of biographical materials transferred from the Biography files, including a photocopy of a photograph of Miller and his daughter Vida in front of a brick bungalow, a list of descendants of John Richard Miller, and other genealogical and biographical information.
