His presidency, the school's fifth, was from 1878 to 1882. Materials in this collection include several book manuscripts written by Harvey H. Henderson; they all are about Samuel Henderson, an ancestor of Pritchard. The books describe early generations of the Henderson family and contain area maps as they relate to the family's migration and property.
</did> <bioghist id="aspace_067cc101ca30bfe5e371c3a5d743847a"> <head>Biographical Note</head> <p>Samuel Henderson, Senior, was born on May 17, 1700, in Hanover County, Virginia. Having moved around to different states, counties, and cities, such as Nutbush Creek, he became an integral part of the Guilford County, N.C., and commissioner of Rockingham County, N.C. Later he became a judge and high sheriff for Granville County.</p> <p>Thomas Henderson Pritchard was the fifth University president (1878-1882), then known as Wake Forest College. Pritchard attended Wake Forest College in 1849, though he left the college early to pursue paid work in order to fund his education. He returned to Wake Forest College in 1853 and completed his degree in 1854. Pritchard was a descendent of Samuel Henderson, Sr.</p> <p>Harvey Hobbs Henderson is a descendent of Samuel Henderson just as Pritchard was. Henderson wrote several books about his ancestor Samuel and appears to have done extensive family genealogical research. Henderson was born in 1938, in Alabama, where he lived most of his life. He died in May 2008.</p> </bioghist> <scopecontent id="aspace_64eb44767de14f4a8545eab62798b8eb"> <head>Collection Overview</head> <p>Materials in this collection include genealogical book manuscripts, area maps of family property and the family's migrations, and geneological reports that recount the Henderson line: James Henderson, Sr., the father of Richard Henderson and grandfather of Samuel Henderson, Sr., of Granville County, North Carolina. Items include four manuscripts: three about Samuel Henderson, Sr., and one about the earlier Henderson lineage dating back to the 1650s. Included in these book manuscripts are hand-drawn plat maps, geneological charts, and chronologies.</p> </scopecontent> <accessrestrict id="aspace_fb5256e87f6d7ca35b661b5834350d72"> <head>Access Restrictions</head> <p>Collection is open for research.</p> </accessrestrict> <userestrict id="aspace_de5bcd0d6c3ef4b0b0fb96871e8f8815"> <head>Copyright Notice</head> <p>The nature of the WFU Z.
