Biographical and Historical Note

Floyd Missionary Baptist Church was organized on July 4, 1954, with 23 charter members, after beginning as the Matrimony School in the early 1940s. The Church's first pastor was Rev. James A. Dunevant, Sr. Mrs. Alice Floyd donated her land in 1954 for the Church's construction. The Church is located in Eden, N.C.

Harold Franklin Dunevant, born in 1941, is the son of former Floyd pastor James Albert Dunevant, Sr. Harold Dunevant graduated from Wake Forest College in 1963.

This collection contains materials from Harold Franklin Dunevant to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Floyd Missionary Baptist Church, which was held May 12-16, 2004. Materials in this collection include letters from congregation members to Dunevant, an invitation to the anniversary celebration, a booklet for the 50th anniversary celebration that contains pictures of church officers and yearly activities in 2004 as well as a synopsis of the Church's history, and materials including photographs, newspaper clippings, directories with pastors' biographies, congregation information, church officer lists, and congregation deaths from 1954 to 2004.
