Southeastern Regional Medical Center is a medical facility located in Lumberton, Robeson County, N.C. In December 2020, the medical center was renamed UNC Health Southeastern. The Department of Pastoral Care was started June 1, 1957, with the employment of Reverend Sam Bagby. This collection contains a history of the Pastoral Care department, written by Revered George Dean Carter in September 2004, and a booklet entitled Our Medical Heritage: A History of Medicine in Robeson County, published in 1959.

Biographical and Historical Note

Southeastern Regional Medical Center is a medical facility located in Lumberton, Robeson County, N.C. Robeson County borders South Carolina on one side and five other N.C. counties. In December 2020, the medical center was renamed UNC Health Southeastern as part of an acquisition by UNC Health System, a decision which allowed the center to remain in operation. The Department of Pastoral Care was started June 1, 1957, with the employment of Reverend Sam Bagby.

Collection Overview

This collection contains a history of the Pastoral Care department, written by Revered George Dean Carter in September 2004, and a booklet entitled Our Medical Heritage: A History of Medicine in Robeson County, published in 1959. Together they provide information regarding the history of medical care in Robeson County.
