Biographical and Historical Note
On August 26, 1905, thirty men and three women met in the public school building to consider the possibility of providing a place of worship for the village of Conway. After several meetings, on October 9, 1905, Reverend C. W. Scarboro, D. Cale, A. T. Howell, R. T. White, and the Baptists in the vicinity of Conways met in the schoolhouse and organized a Baptist Church. Rev. Cale was elected moderator and J. W. Martin Secretary. After an appropriate opening, letters were presented from frormer members of Roberts Chapel, Potecasi, Murfreesboro, and Galatia churches. C. W. Scarboro declines the pastorate but consented to serve until a pastor could be secured. The first pastor called by the church was the Rev. Jesse McCarter who began his pastorate in February, 1906, just out of Wake Forest College.
