Topics of the nearly-daily entries include names and ranks of soldiers in the unit; the unit's movements across N.C., through the Blue Ridge Mountains and Virginia, including a stop in Charlottesville; and daily occurances such as letters received, food, illnesses, and weather. </p> <p>A note, before the church related entries in the book begin, provides insight into the diary's provenance. It reads: "This book was found on the battlefield of Manasses [Virginia]. Brought here by T. F. Hayne and sold to M. S. Vestal. And then M.S. Vestal taken this book and presented it to the Sandy Spring Church. M. S.
