Biographical and Historical Note
Eugene (Gene) Irving Olive graduated from Wake Forest College (1910) with a bachelor of arts degree. He was ordained in the Baptist ministry, served as a pastor, and received a master of theology degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1918). He served at many churches in North Carolina from 1918 to 1940, until he became the chaplain of Wake Forest College. He resigned from his pastorate position in 1947 to become Wake Forest's public relations and alumni activities director, where he worked until his retirement in 1961. Olive was married to Iva Lanier Pierson and together they had a daughter, Emily Caroline Olive Rankin. Olive passed away in 1968 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
