Biographical and Historical Note
On October 9, 1938, a Baptist Sunday School was organized and began meeting in the Graham Heights section of Charlotte. On January 15, 1939, Graham Heights Sunday School voted to organize as a Baptist Church. A presbytery consisting of Reverends W.L. Griggs, Raymond Lond, S.M. Collier, J.D. Moose, W.A. Stephenson, C.W. Durden, and J.M. Griggs and deacons met on Sunday, February 19, 1939, and organized with 17 charter members as Hutchinson Avenue Baptist Church. The church joined the Mecklenburg Baptist Association the same year and remained a member for its entire existence. On July 5, 1970, the Hutchinson Baptist Church voted to dissolve due to the community changing and held its final service July 12, 1970.
