Biographical and Historical Note
Deep Creek Church, Surry County (now Yadkin County, N.C.), was organized in 1777 according to Asplund by Elder Joseph Murphy, who served the church as its pastor until his death in 1816. The church was refused a seat in the Yadkin Association in 1819 because of disorders. A committee was appointed and investigated the charge against Deep Creek brought by Bear Creek. They reported to the next Yadkin Association meeting that the disorders had been removed and the church was restored to the association. After this time, the delegates were regularly reported until 1831 when the church was not listed in the Yadkin Association.
The church was visited in 1829 by a delegation from Fisher's River Church to consider the missions and Sunday School questions. In 1832 Deep Creek was one of the charter members at the formation of the Fisher's River Primitive Baptist Association. The Yadkin Association excluded Deep Creek for being in disorder in 1833. In 1865 Swan Creek (organized prior to 1832) became extinct and its members united with Deep Creek.
