Her collection includes correspondences with friends and family from 1831-1844.</abstract> </did> <bioghist id="ref8"> <head>Biographical Note</head> <p>Amanda Bellamy Smart was born in Richmond, Virginia, around 1810. Her father was John Bellamy, a wealthy plantation owner in the Virginia Beach area. She later moved to Warrenton, North Carolina, where she lived on a tobacco and cotton plantation. Letters are organized in folders, ordered chronologically. Correspondents include her cousins, Emily and Jacob "Paine" Smart, sister Eliza Mann, aunt Elizabeth Clarke, and family friend Orillor Vreelan. There is also one disorganized letter without the writer's signature.
