Julius H. Corpening was a Wake Forest College graduate (1949) who worked at WFU from 1974-2004 in several positions, mainly as head of development for the School of Law. This collection includes materials from Julius Corpening's work in the Development of the Law School. Materials include budget plans, management projects, event documentation, and other planning materials.
Biographical and Historical Note
Julius H. Corpening was born on February 22, 1928, in Lancaster, South Carolina. Corpening graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest College (1949) and continued his studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, and at Duke University. He held pastorates at Baptist churches in Moncure, N.C.; Durham, N.C.; and Hampton, S.C. In 1969, he came to Wake Forest University to head the Piedmont Church and Industry Institute and acted as director of the Urban Affairs Institute. In 1974, he began the development program for the Wake Forest School of Law and, in 1988, was named Assistant Vice President for University Relations, a position he held until retirement in 2004. He was also responsible for the Masters Reception and was an avid fan of Wake Forest sports teams. Corpening passed away on April 5, 2014.
