The Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1970. It's purpose is to identify and celebrate athletes, administrators, and coaches who have made a lasting impact on Wake Forest's athletic legacy. Materials in this collection include nomination guidelines, as well as submission packets, certificates, and photographs from induction ceremonies.
Biographical and Historical Note
The Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1970. It's purpose is to identify and celebrate athletes, administrators, and coaches who have made significant contributions to Wake Forest's athletic legacy. The inaugural class of four inductees included Murray Greason, James "Jim" Weaver, Brian Piccolo, and Douglas Clyde "Peahead" Walker.
The Hall of Fame Committee convenes annually to select candidates for induction based on criteria established by the WFU Department of Athletics. Nominees must be out of school for at least 10 years (or deceased), having achieved national recognition as an athlete, coach, or administrator that has brought personal renown to both the individual and the university, while maintaining good character and reputation. Other inductess include Women's Golf coach Dianne Dailey, athletes Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues, Rust LaRue, and Charlie Davis.
