Biographical and Historical Note

Currently called the Center for Global Programs and Studies (GPS), the department has also been previously called: the Office of International Studies, the Program of Foreign Studies, or the Center for International Studies. GPS is situated under the Provost's office and oversees both the Wake Forest University study abroad programs and international houses as well as international students studying at Wake Forest.

In 2019, the Lilly Endowment Fund, a philanthropic fund focused around religion, education and community development awarded Wake Forest with a $3.4 million grant towards the Program for Leadership and Character, some of which went towards global affairs and studies, helping GPS put on events and increase funding. Additionally, the money went towards funding study abroad programs and courses in sociology and sustainability.
