Biographical and Historical Note
The business school at Wake Forest University was established in 1948 as the School of Business Administration. It became the Charles H. Babcock School of Business Administration in 1969 and was renamed the Babcock Graduate School of Management in 1972 after Charles H. Babcock, an investment banker and supporter of Wake Forest. Babcock was married to mary Reynolds Babcock and together they donated land to move Wake Forest to Wake Forest, among other philanthropic contribitions to Wake Forest and the city.
In 2019, Wake Forest University's Center for Leadership and Character and the Oxford Character Project worked together to sponsor an international conference titled "The Arts of Leading: Perspective from the Humanities and Liberal Arts." The goal of this conference was to bring together scholars in the arts and humanities to engage with texts to explore new ways of understanding leadership. The keynote speaker for this event was Renée Elise Goldberry, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning actress best known as Angelica Schuyler in the musical Hamilton.
