Biographical and Historical Note

Wake Downtown is the location of three of Wake Forest's academic programs in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery, and Engineering, as well as one of the campuses of Wake Forest School of Medicine.The Wake Forest School of Medicine moved some courses to downtown Winston-Salem in July 2016 and undergraduate classes began taking place downtown in January 2017. Classes take place at Innovation Quarter, a district that consists of academic groups and private businesses. The Innovation Quarter buildings are warehouses previously owned by R. J. Reynolda Tobacco Company, a tobacco manufacturing company that was originally based in Winston-Salem.

In addition to the Wake Downtown campus at Innovation Quarter, the historic Brookstown campus in downtown Winston-Salem offers classrooms, collaborative work areas, and study spaces for faculty, staff, and graduate students.
