Charles Sylvester Green was a Wake Forest alumnus, clergyman, newspaper editor, freelance writer, and Vice President of Wake Forest College. Biographical and Historical Note

Charles Sylvester Green was clergyman, newspaper editor, and college president.

Green was born September 23, 1900 in Greensburg, Kentucky, to Thomas Madison and Rosealthea Buck Green. He received his B.A. (1922) and M.A. (1926) from Wake Forest College. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Divinity from Duke University (1930) and a Master of Theology degree from Union Theological Seminary (1954).

Green was president of Coker College in Hartsville, SC (1936-1943) and later became the editor of the Durham Morning Herald. He was also the Executive Vice President of the Medical Foundation of North Carolina (1950-1955), which was an agency formed to assist in the development of the medical school and hospital at the University of North Carolina. In 1955 he became the Vice President of Wake Forest College, which he held until 1958 when he became a Vice President of William Jewell College, a Baptist college in Liberty, Missouri. He retired in 1971, but continued to work as a freelance writer.

Green married Mary Morris on June 8, 1926. They had two children, Nancy Rose and Charles Morris. Green died in Statesville, N.C., on January 10, 1980.
