Biographical and Historical Note

Rhoda K. Channing was born on October 7, 1941, in Brooklyn New York. She attended Brooklyn College and received a bachelor of arts in English. She also attended Columbia University for a master of science degree in Library Science and Boston College for a masters degree in Business Administration. Before becoming the Director of Wake Forest University's Z. Smith Reynolds Library (ZSR) in 1989, she worked at multiple university libraries on the east coast. Throughout her career, she was an active academic writer and won a Fulbright Senior Specialist for the Council from International Exchange of Scholars.

Her work as the ZSR Library director (1989-2003) helped the library evolve and incorporate new technology. She oversaw both the physical reconstructuion of the Wilson Wing of the library as well as the transition to the Dynix automated library system. She died on July 25, 2003, and her memorial service was held on October 7, 2003, in Wait Chapel.
