Biographical and Historical Note

In 1961, the Fideles society was established on Wake Forest University's campus. By 1965 there were five women's societies on Wake Forest's campus: Strings, Fideles, Laureles, Les Souers, and S.O.P.H.s. The societies worked together to create the Inter-Society Council (ISC).

Due to complex insurance and liability issues, the campus administration decided that the societies had to limit their operations or affiliate with a national organization. National sororities were established on campus in 1993, and the Fideles became the Chi Omega sorority in 1994. The Zeta Lambda chapter of Chi Omega remains active on campus.
