Biographical and Historical Note
Faculty committees are service organizations with intent to maintain the tradition and vitality of WFU's day-to-day operations as well as long-term University projects. Such committees are mandatory under Chapter 7 of the Faculty Handbook. Committee types include executive, advisory, special, and ad-hoc, meant to do specialized research and report-writing for University Administration. In contrast, faculty groups are optional based on personal interests, informal, and often organized outside University governance.
The Committee on Fraternities advised the College on the happenings of and recommendations about Greek Life. Their tasks include surveying, reporting, chartering, and fraternity-related policymaking. Now the Blue Ribbon Committee, it has expanded from faculty-only to the inclusion of students, staff, and outside advisors.
Wake Forward is a faculty, staff, and student organization founded in 2014 to forward a "progressive vision" for the campus, Winston-Salem, and N.C. It serves as a site to meet, share scholarship with, highlight community issues, garner social action, and produce "white paper" reports on their findings.
The Ad Hoc Antiracism Committee was formed in 2019 in response to grievances brought forth by the student Anti-Racist Coalition. They are tasked with addressing Wake Forest's legacy in the participation and perpetuation of racism, colonialism, and slavery, through research, reports and recommendations for remediation.
