Collection Overview
This series contains material from the making of The Trials of Darryl Hunt, directed by Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg of Break Thru Films. The filmmakers became involved in 1993, when the case was almost 10 years old. They documented its development using news coverage, courtroom footage and interviews, until Darryl Hunt's release from prison in 2003. The film was released in January 2006, and won grand jury and other prizes and recognitions at more than twenty film festivals around the world in 2006 and 2007, including the Sundance Film and Full Frame festivals. It also was broadcast on HBO in 2007. This series contains research, correspondence, film festival screening material, interview transcripts, script material, and videotapes in VHS and Betacam format, including courtroom footage used in the making of the film and news documentary programs featuring Darryl Hunt and related stories. The series is arranged in approximate alphabetical order.
Publication titles are not italicized and may be abbreviated, like "WS Journal" for Winston-Salem Journal. Folders often contain related materials.
Boxes 18 and 19 and an additional series of eight videotapes, containing interviews, script material, and documentary footage, are restricted at the request of the filmmakers. This material is not currently listed in the finding aid due to these restrictions.
