Falls of the Tar Primitive Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, N.C., was constituted as a Particular Baptist church in 1757. It became a Primitive Baptist Church in the mid-1800s. This collection includes church minutes and member rolls from 1757-1974 across seven volumes.

Biographical and Historical Note

The exact founding year of Falls of the Tar Primitive Baptist Church (Rocky Mount, N.C.) is unknown. There is evidence that it was constituted, or reconstituted, in 1757 as a Particular Baptist church after a split in the denomination. The first known building was constructed in 1764. Falls of the Tar was a founding member of the Kehukee Association. The church and its leaders, in particular Reverend John Moore, were central to the Primitive Baptist movement. The Falls of Tar became a Primitive Baptist Church in the mid-1800s.
