      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>The exact founding year of Falls of the Tar Primitive Baptist Church (Rocky Mount, N.C.) is unknown. There is evidence that it was constituted, or reconstituted, in 1757 as a Particular Baptist church after a split in the denomination. The first known building was constructed in 1764. Falls of the Tar was a founding member of the Kehukee Association. The church and its leaders, in particular Reverend John Moore, were central to the Primitive Baptist movement. The Falls of Tar became a Primitive Baptist Church in the mid-1800s.</p>
