A.R. Ammons paintings
Archibald Randolph Ammons (1926-2001) was a poet and professor. His work has been compared to the romantic poets Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. This collection consists of nine untitled watercolor paintings dated 1977-1979 painted by A.R. Ammons.
Biographical and Historical Note
Archibald Randolph Ammons (1926-2001) was a poet and professor. Ammons was born on a tobacco farm outside of Whiteville, North Carolina and began writing poetry while serving in World War II. He graduated from Wake Forest University after the war and eventually started a career as a professor at Cornell University. His poetry has won two National Book Awards, a National Book Critics Circle Award, the Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry, the Bollingen Prize for Poetry, the MacArthur Fellowship, and the Wallace Stevens Award. His work has been compared to the romantic poets Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
