He graduated from Wake Forest College in 1856. He was a tutor at Wake Forest College until his death. The Biblical Recorder notes on November 20, 1856, that his death of typhoid fever occured "Saturday last," or November 15. A Philomathesia memorial notes the death date as December 15, 1856.</p> </bioghist> <scopecontent id="aspace_5eb38567dcdb60783cb3d8e944c2ba78"> <head>Collection Overview</head> <p>This collection contains two items from Cole's time as a student at Wake Forest College. The first is a notebook, dated September 26, 1854, contains class notes for Philosophy and Chemistry taken under Prof. <persname><part>William Gaston Simmons</part></persname>. The second is the photocopy of a diary that Cole kept from September 18, 1852 to August 31, 1856. He records his religious feelings; his preaching in nearby churches; his call to the ministry; talks on missions and sermons heard; conversations with students and others; his readings; his appointment as tutor at Wake Forest College; and his ordination on August 31, 1856.
